Birchbox February 2015 Unboxing

Hello Lovelies!

How long has it been?? Months! Boy has my life changed…but that’s for a different time. Now is the time to share my February 2015 Birchbox unboxing with you! Whoopie!!

I have to say, it was a pretty good box this month. Every since Birchbox started letting me choose one sample a month, things have gotten a lot better!

Here is the card from this months box! Since February is the month of love, the theme for the box was Friendship, in all it’s incredible forms.

We will start from the top: The sample I chose this month was the Roller Lash mascara by Benefit. I’m always looking for a better mascara so when I get a choice like that, I always lean towards mascara. The mascara has a hard bristled brush like a lot of the newer kinds have now a days. Your suppose to turn the wand as you put it on to give it a curl. I had issues with it. It put a large gunk of mascara on my lashes and all of them were stuck together. Not just a few to make them look spidery, but all of them. I had one solid lash! haha. I ran the brush over them a few more times and it cleaned off the extra mascara but I still don’t really like the results. There is no lengthening at all. I’m still a lover of Urban decay Perversion! It is the best mascara ever!

20150220_105539 20150220_101903

Also in my box was a small sample of Caudali Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet. Its a gel-cream that’s derived from antioxidant-rich grapes, that hydrates the skin and is suppose to reduce redness. I havent tried it out yet so I can’t give my personal opinion. I did put a little dot of it on my hand to smell of it and it kinda smells like an old lotion to me. :/ Not a good smell like I prefer.

Next is a perfume called Clean. It’s described as a light, alluring fragrance that mimics the subtle scent of bare skin. Weird description… To me, it just smells clean. Not like laundry detergent clean, but more of a floral clean…but not rose floral. It smells similar to other fragrances I have smelled before. Wow…I’m really not good at describing perfume at all!

Next is a sea salt spray calls Parlor by Jeff Chastain. This is actually a Birchbox exclusive product. It’s supposed to be a nondrying spray that gives you soft, beachy waves. The smell actually smells a little earthy to me. I haven’t gotten to try it out yet so I’m not sure how it works. I’m usually a fan of sea salt spray though. I use it on my roots before I blow dry my hair for extra volume.

And lastly I received a cucumber eye gel by Jules and Esther. It’s described as a soothing, botanical-infused treatment that combats puffiness, wrinkles, and dark circles. I will be trying this baby out tomorrow. The sample size is TINY but it should be enough for a use or two. It smells just like fresh cucumber too!

So that completes my February Birchbox! What did you get?

Jamberry nail review NOTW

, , , , ,

Hello Lovelies,

I feel like I haven’t been on here in forever. I know I always say that so no surprise for you guys, but I really need to get motivated again. I pull wordpress up almost everyday but can’t think of anything to write about. I try to keep on the beauty topic, but I’m a science geek and want to talk about that kinda stuff too, but I don’t want to lose my followers!

Anyway, a lady at my work sells so many different things. She started with Avon, which I ended up buying over $100 worth of products my first order from her, and then it went to Initials, Advocare, and Jamberry. Needless to say, I’ve bought something from her every time she brings something new to me. I think she knows I’m a sucker!

The most recent I have tried is some nail stickers from Jamberry. I originally thought it would be similar to the ones they sell at Walgreens and such that you just put straight on your nails, but these are a little different. You actually have to warm the adhesive up on the back of the sticker first, and then again after you have applied it. It’s suppose to help seal the adhesive to your nail so it lasts longer.

Here’s what mine turned out looking like:

You can get 2 uses out of each pack. They are a little pricey though. They cost $15 each pack, and some are even more than that…like sports teams and stuff. I’ve jsut had them on one day and so far I love them. I am terrible at painting little designs on my nails…well, I’m terrible at painting my nails in general. With these on, I actually have nice looking nails! There are even some larger stickers in each pack that will fit on your big toe so you can actually have matching toes!! 🙂

Here are the directions:

Have you tried Jamberry before??

Nails of the DAY!!!

Hello Lovelies,

Boy, am I glad the weather is changing and it’s 81 degrees outside instead of 30! It’s just been so crazy here in Georgia. One minute it’s warm and sunny and the next it’s freezing and I’m wearing a coat again! Hope you are feeling the sun like I am!

And yes, I did say nails of the DAY… So last night I decided to mess around with some of my newer polishes that I have had tucked away in my drawer at home for some time now. I never have the time to really focus on my nails but I decided I would make a partial attempt at it… meaning I’d just paint my nails… No trimming of cuticles or anything like that, which you totally can tell I didn’t do! I’ll save that for the people that know what they are doing. I plan on getting a pedi/mani this weekend!! I don’t know what got into me or why I even thought about doing my nails yesterday since my future plans were to be getting them done professionally and this whole week I’m volunteering with United Way and will be getting messy at times!

So the products/supplies I used are:

Sally Hansen – color 510 Pat on the Black

Zoya – color Odette

Avon – Brushed Metals in BrushedGold

Sally Hansen – Nail Art Pen in color white

Q-tip with the end cut off (if you have nail painting tools, those work too of course!)

I used the Zoya polish as my base and painted the pointer with the “Brushed Gold” and the ring finger with the “Pat on the Black.” I followed the “Pat on the Black” with dots of the Zoya topped with the white pen. As I said, I didn’t do anything fancy because I plan on getting it professionally done but one thing about the white pen irked me. I painted my nails last night but this morning, the white had started rubbing off. You can see in the picture below how it’s already almost rubbed off of my other hand. (I didn’t use the Zoya polish under the white on this hand because I got lazy!)

I guess it would have worked better if I had followed up with a top coat. I didn’t put one on because I already had 3 layers of polish and the Sally Hansen purple polish had a good shine too it already. Grrrrr…. Oh well, I’m too lazy to change it tonight. May I’ll fix it tomorrow!

Have you ever used the Sally Hansen white pen? Did it suck this bad for you??

The Unexpected Beauty

, , , , ,

Hello Lovelies,

Well, I’m not sure if I have ever given this secret away, but I am a hunter. I don’t go by myself but I go occasionally with my fiance’. In my area, they have 2 hunts a year in an area that is normally fenced off and inaccessible. It’s a place where waste water is released. (Ew, gross, I know). Because the foliage is so massive and green most of the year, there is an excess of deer and turkey roaming around which is bad for nearby traffic. You can enter each drawing, and if you are one of the people chosen, you get to hunt on this property and have a chance at shooting something massive! I was one of the 12 lucky people drawn this year for the turkey hunt. I was pretty excited because I have never shot anything. It seems like every day I decide to go with my fiance, it was a terrible day and we wouldn’t  even see anything. It was going to be different this time.

Well, long story short, I still didn’t shoot anything. One of the other hunters kept driving the nearby back roads and scaring everything away. Just my luck.

Now I know you’re probably wondering what the unexpected beauty in this story is so I’m going to tell you…and show you.

While sitting behind a log waiting for the turkey my fiance was calling in to come our way, I noticed something strange. Can you see it in the picture??

The flower is actually growing out of the tree. It caused me to instantly smile. At that moment, I knew the hunting trip was worth it. It wasn’t about shooting my first turkey. It was about spending time with my fiance’ and doing something he enjoyed..and I actually had fun too. It was about us bonding because things have been a little rocky for us lately. Things have been better for us since then. And I’ll always have this picture to look back on and smile when I need it.

Have you experienced something like this before?

April 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hello Lovelies,

So you may have noticed if you keep up with my blog that I got my Ipsy and Birchbox in the same day …so you get double unboxings today!! Yay! 🙂 If you don’t know what Ipsy is, read below:

“Join me on ipsy and subscribe to the Glam Bag! You get 4-5 beauty products every month delivered to your door, for just $10. Michelle Phan curates the bags! Check it out here: “

I really liked the products I received this month. 🙂

So I’m going to start out with my favorite product instead of saving it for last because I love it so much!! I received an Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil. I’ve never been a fan of the eyeliner pencils that I actually have to sharpen because they never seem to be as high quality as the roll up ones but this one is different. It’s just amazing. It’s so smooth and actually stays on my eyes like it says it will. Most eyeliners that are suppose to stay on for “hours” never stay on that long for me. Maybe I just have oily eyelids or something?? You can receive a free gift at if you purchase at least $35 and use the code UDIPSY at checkout.

The next product is BigSexyHair Root Pump. It’s a volumizing spray mousse…It has a sprayer like hair spray but comes out in mousse form. It’s kinda fascinating to me actually! I haven’t tried it yet but it spells pretty good. You’re suppose to spray it on your roots when your hair is still damp. I assume it works just like regular mousse but is easier to apply?? You can receive a 25% off code at if you text the word IPSTER to 33233 and provide an email.

I also received a microdermabrasion skin exfoliant from Dr. Brandt in my Ipsy bag this month. It has a citrusy smell and has the consistency of a lotion with salt mixed in it. I plan on trying this over the weekend! I really like facial scrubs so I’m sure I’ll like this one. It feels like it’s pretty good quality. The first 10k purchases at can get 20% off a full size microdermabrasion and a FREE gift if you use the code MICRO20 at check out!

So another product from a brand I have never heard of…I received a mousse eyeshadow from City Color in the color white/gold. I’m not going to lie…I really don’t like it. The texture throws me off too much even though the final color is pretty. It literally feels like mousse that you have sprayed into your hand….really wet and slippery….slippery like face primer. It looks white in the container but if you rub it onto your skin, it’s nice shimmery gold. In the swatch picture below I used too much so it’s a thick white-ish chunk, but if you use the actual amount you need, it is completely gold….no white tint at all. I think it would look good as a highlight on your temples or something. You can receive 20% your total purchase at by using the code 14IPSY20WG.

I’m sure you noticed in the picture above that there is a little peachish-pink swatch…and I’m sure you probably love the color like me so I will tell you what it is. 🙂 The last item I received in my Ipsy Glambag is a tinted lip balm in color apple pink by Cailyn. Yet again, I’ve never heard of this brand. I’ve never been really big on lipsticks because I can never find a shade that I feel comfortable wearing. I’m usually pretty picky when it comes to lip products. First, I’ll start with the container. I love the idea that everything you need is all together. I end up throwing my lip brushes in my bag and it gets destroyed. This should help fix that…and the brush it comes with is pretty good quality so hopefully it lasts a while! Second…it has no smell. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. The color is definitely peachy. It’s not shiny at all and is kinda dry so you either need to put a primer on first or put some sort of gloss on after if that’s what you like. It also stays on pretty well too but as you can see below, it’s just not my color. You can receive 20% off any purchase and a free gift at by using the code IPSYGIFT

Well, I guess that’s it for my Ipsy Glam bag this month. All in all, I liked this bag and will be experimenting with the new different products. I’ve already checked out the websites for each product and they all have some good products!! You should check them out too!!

Did you get an Ipsy Glam bag this month? What did ya think about it?

April 2014 Birchbox Unboxing!

, , , , , , , ,

Hello Lovelies!

Guess what I got yesterday??? My April Birchbox! Yay! I always look forward to my little beauty box surprises that I get in the mail every month. If you are unfamiliar with Birchbox, read below:

“Each month, you’ll receive a selection of samples that we’ve tried (and retried) ourselves. We source our samples from both well-known brands and emerging gems. The women’s subscription includes everything from skincare to makeup, as well as fun non-beauty extras. The men’s subscription delivers top-tier grooming products in addition to lifestyle accessories ranging from hip socks to tech accessories. “

You can check out Birchbox here! It’s only $10 a month!

Anyway, this month wasn’t necessarily my favorite but I am excited to try some of the new things I got!

First I’ll mention that my box may look a little empty because I already took something out and ATE it! haha. I’m a fatty I know! I just couldn’t wait. What is missing from my box is a KIND Healthy Grains Bar made with maple pumpkin seeds and sea salt.

Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt

Now I’m not going to lie…I’ve never really been a fan of anything pumpkin or anything you eat that is mushy and orange, so I was a little hesitant to try this bar. The thought of it being made from pumpkin kinda made me quiver. I decided to take a bite despite that fact, and was surprised by how yummy it actually was. The sweet yet saltiness of the bar made for a perfect match. The perfect kinda match like Wendy’s fries dipped in their chocolate frosty. You know what I’m sayin’?????

Gilchrist & Soames is a brand I have never even heard of and since I haven’t tried it yet, the only thing I can judge is the smell. If you like clean, earthy smells, you will love the way this stuff smells. It kinda reminds me of a fresh cut cucumber mixed with a light hint of a mans cologne.

The Color Club nail polish is soooo beautiful. It’s a great shimmery pastel green, which will be great for Easter this weekend. I thought the product would need several coats, but after trying it out, 2 coats will be plenty. And if you are better at painting nails than I am…which about 95% of women are, you may can get by with just one coat! The color of my sample is called “Breakfast at…”Image

The next item in my box is a product by Miss Jessie’s. Its called Transitioner’s Magic and it’s for chemically treated hair. It’s suppose to shape and smooth curls of all types. I have tried another product from this brand before and I didn’t really like it. I may have used it wrong but it made my hair feel super oily. :/ I’ll probably save this for a day I don’t have anything planned just in case!Image

The last Item in my box was a product by Sumita. I am completely new to this brand so I really have no idea what to expect. It’s a color contract eyeliner called Jamun, which is a deep purple. In the swatch below, you can see it really doesn’t even look purple. It looks more of a brown to me. And it kinda reminds me of a crayon. It’s a soft wax but the line isn’t completely solid. I’m not a big fan of this liner. Not the color, just the look of it. One positive thing about this liner is that it has really good staying power. I tried to rub the swatch off my hand it didn’t budge. I got it wet and rubbed it and it still didn’t really come off. This is a product that would have to be removed with some eye makeup remover!Image

This month, Birchbox included a card from a 52 card collection the Birchbox editors made up. It’s called 52 Bright Ideas for a Rainy Day. I received card #42 and it said “Unroll your yoga mat and cue up an at-home routine with one of Tara Stiles’s videos.” I’m actually excited to find out about this website. After just a little browsing, I realize how inspirational this lady is. I’m definitely going to dig into her stuff!

Overall, this birchbox was just ok. It was definitely worth the $10 it cost for sure though. I look forward to the next box even though I’ve just opened one! It’s definitely a fun addiction I don’t plan on cancelling any time soon.

What did you get in your box?

Was it better than mine?

Jason Isbell – Cover Me Up

, ,

Hello Lovelies,

This morning I woke up with a tune in my head but couldn’t figure out what it was. When I got into work, it hit me and I looked up the song so I could share it with you. 🙂 (I’m just too sweet)! More than likely you won’t know who he is, but give him a shot! David Letterman loves him and always has him on his show….he must be good then, right???

What do you think??
